A furniture showroom owner in Thane once sent us three SEO quotes side by side. One was ₹6,000 a month, one ₹22,000 and one ₹55,000. All three promised “top rankings” and “complete SEO.” None of them said how many hours of work he was buying.
That’s the core problem with SEO packages in India. The same words cover very different amounts of work. This guide breaks down what each price tier can realistically deliver, so you can compare quotes on substance instead of adjectives.
Why SEO prices vary so much
SEO is mostly skilled time: research, writing, technical fixes and outreach. A package price is really a monthly budget of hours, split across those tasks. Three things decide how many hours you need. How competitive your keywords are, how big your site is, and how far behind competitors you’re starting.
A dentist in Borivali targeting local searches needs far less work than an ecommerce brand selling across India. Pricing that ignores those differences is a template, not a plan.
Under ₹10,000 a month: what you usually get
At this level, there isn’t room for much skilled work. Most packages in this range lean on automated reports, directory submissions and cheap backlinks. Some of those links can do more harm than good. If budget is this tight, a one-time audit plus fixes you make yourself is usually better value than an ongoing retainer.
₹15,000 – ₹25,000: the starter tier
This is where real SEO work begins, usually for local businesses with modest competition. A fair starter package should include:
- A technical audit and fixes for the most serious issues
- On-page optimisation for your main service pages
- Google Business Profile setup and monthly updates
- One or two well-researched content pieces a month
- A monthly report covering organic traffic, enquiries and rankings
₹30,000 – ₹45,000: the growth tier
Suited to businesses competing citywide or across a region. On top of the starter work, expect three or four content pieces a month, genuine link-building outreach to relevant sites, optimisation of more pages, and a quarterly strategy review. This tier is where most small and mid-sized businesses in competitive Mumbai markets land.
₹60,000 and above: competitive and national SEO
For ecommerce stores, multi-location businesses and brands targeting all of India. Work here typically adds a larger content programme, digital PR, conversion rate improvements, and deeper technical work on large sites. Highly competitive niches can run well past ₹1,00,000 a month.
How to compare SEO packages in India fairly
Put every quote through the same questions:
- What exactly gets done each month?Ask for a deliverables list, not a list of benefits.
- Who does the work?A senior strategist, a junior executive or a freelancer down the chain.
- Where do the links come from?Ask for examples. “500 backlinks” is a warning, not a feature.
- What gets reported?Leads and organic traffic should sit alongside rankings.
- What’s the minimum term, and how do you exit?Three to six months is normal, since SEO takes time to compound.
Red flags in SEO pricing
Be wary of packages priced by keyword count, such as “20 keywords for ₹8,000.” Keyword count says nothing about effort or competition. Treat guaranteed rankings the same way. Google states plainly that no one can guarantee a top position, so any package promising one is overselling.
The cheapest option isn’t the cheapest
A ₹6,000 package that produces nothing for a year costs ₹72,000 and twelve months of lost time. A ₹25,000 package that starts sending enquiries by month five has often paid for itself by month eight. Judge SEO packages in India by the work they include and the results they can show, not the monthly figure alone.
